Softball Recap: Hackensack Comes Up Short at Home Against Mahwah

Hackensack unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Mahwah Thunderbirds by a score of 9-8 on Saturday.

Briana Darling was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaila Balon, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Darling wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Hackensack kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hackensack is headed away from home for the first time to take on Eastside at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Mahwah, they will head out to challenge Academy of the Holy A at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
