South Florence is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Midland Valley by a score of 7-3.
Payton Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Page White, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Owens, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
South Florence hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times North Augusta and Midland Valley have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Mustangs.
North Augusta also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lia Allen gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Ayla Holmes and Emily Cloy did most of the damage at the plate: Holmes went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Cloy went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Cloy a new career-high. Celeste Truesdale was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
South Florence's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Augusta, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
South Florence suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to North Augusta in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
