Basketball Recap: Anselmo-Merna's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Anselmo-Merna had lost four straight headed into Friday's match, but Dane Duryea didn't let it get to five. The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes enjoyed a cozy 54-39 win over the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades on Friday thanks in part to Duryea, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Anselmo-Merna's points.

Another player making a difference was Kayden Record, who went 8 for 13 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four).

Several Renegades players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Jesse, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Jesse is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Elijah Heinz was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Anselmo-Merna's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Anselmo-Merna didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-38 win against Sandhills/Thedford on the 16th. Chambers/Wheeler Central has also already played their next matchup, a 63-32 loss against Stuart on the 14th.
