Newman Central Catholic is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 24 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Marquette on Friday. They came up short against the Crusaders, falling 15-1.
Newman Central Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Oetting, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five matchup, Somonauk brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Amboy on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bobcats as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Kaydence Eade made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Eade was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Barshinger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ady Werner, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Somonauk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Somonauk's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Newman Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-17.
