Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Western Alamance Warriors, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. Their tough 33-13 defeat to Cape Fear on Friday might stick with them for a while. The match was a close 16-13 at the break, but unfortunately for Western Alamance it sure didn't stay that way.
Leading Cape Fear to victory were Jeremiah Melvin and Geronimo Sanchez. Melvin picked up 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Sanchez rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Melvin's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards.
Cape Fear's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Robert Moore and Desmond Harris who racked up five sacks between them.
Western Alamance's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Cape Fear, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Western Alamance does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cape Fear will head out on the road to face off against Havelock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Havelock is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
