The Purnell Swett Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a tough 59-37 defeat at the hands of Seventy-First. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Purnell Swett has suffered since December 6, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Purnell Swett lost, one person who can't be blamed is Niyah Locklear. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Locklear is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
Seventy-First's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kariana Williams led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six assists and five steals. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Mariyah Massey was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six steals and five assists.
Purnell Swett has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Seventy-First, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett will take on Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Jack Britt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 40 on Tuesday. Seventy-First's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lumberton at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th.
