On Thursday, the Cheshire Rams faced the Southington Blue Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cheshire took down Southington 34-20. Cheshire's win was all the more impressive since Southington was averaging only 18.1 points allowed on the season.
Cheshire was led to victory by Jeffery Gonzalez and Matt Jeffery. Gonzalez rushed for 131 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, while Jeffery rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Southington still got an impressive performance from Evan Anderson, who picked up 161 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Cheshire's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Southington, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheshire will face off against Masuk at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Masuk will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Southington, they will head out on the road to face off against Manchester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Manchester is ranked 37th, while Southington is ranked 21st).
