Football Recap: Covington Skates Past South Newton with Ease

While Covington put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for South Newton. The Trojans simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rebels 45-0. The Trojans have beaten the Rebels the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.

Covington was led to victory by Beau Bishop and Sully Stadler. Bishop rushed for 78 yards and one score on only five carries, while Stadler rushed for 104 yards and a pair of TDs. Kaden Smith also helped with two touchdowns in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Covington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Covington's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for South Newton, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Covington wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 44-14 win against North Vermillion on the 5th. As for South Newton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-6 victory against Benton Central on the 5th.
