Washougal hasn't had much luck against Columbia River recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Rapids at 4:00 p.m. Washougal has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Washougal couldn't beat Mark Morris on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Panthers came up short against the Monarchs, falling 18-4.
Washougal saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stella Genova, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia River). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hudson's Bay a 30-0 shutout on Friday. The Rapids might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Haylee Delano and Ruby Lew made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Delano pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lew struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Delano has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Delano earned three RBI and two runs, while Lew got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance also gave Lew a new career-high in hits (four).
In other batting news, Sydney Wilder was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haley Corona, who went 5-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Columbia River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Columbia River is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Washougal, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Washougal suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Columbia River in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
