Bonanza is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will square off against the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions at 3:30 p.m.
Bonanza fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Foothill on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 3, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Bonanza saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dillon Owens, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Sierra Vista waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Rams.
Michael Credico was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brady Skinner was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one triple. He has become a key player for Sierra Vista: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Webb, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Sierra Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Sierra Vista's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Bonanza, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Bonanza couldn't quite finish off Sierra Vista in their previous meeting last Wednesday and fell 8-6. Can Bonanza avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
