The Marion Warriors on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Wakefield Bombers at 3:00 p.m. on January 16th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Thursday, Marion came up short against Remington and fell 44-31. Marion has not had much luck with Remington recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Marion got a solid performance out of Grace Hett, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Marion struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Wakefield, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-36 loss to Canton-Galva back in December of 2023. Wakefield has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Wakefield had strong showings from Paige Smith, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, and Allison Adams, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. That was a full 41.7% of Wakefield's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Rohr, who scored five points along with ten rebounds.
Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Wakefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's matchup: Marion have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 31.8% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Wakefield, though, as they've only made 28.3% of their threes per game this season. Given Marion's sizeable advantage in that area, Wakefield will need to find a way to close that gap.
Marion beat Wakefield 41-29 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Will Marion repeat their success, or does Wakefield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
