Northeastern Clinton hasn't had much luck against Plattsburgh recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Northeastern Clinton turned things around against Moriah on Sunday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Vikings. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Vikings on their field since May 22, 2021.

Jacob Perkins made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Northeastern Clinton is undefeated when Perkins allows one or fewer hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Perkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
Perkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Robert McIntyre, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. William Whalen also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Plattsburgh came out on top against Beekmantown on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Northeastern Clinton, Plattsburgh also got a great game from a two-way player: Cooper Holland. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Holland has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Plattsburgh got a massive performance out of Raif Lautenscheutz, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Colin Walker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Northeastern Clinton's record now sits at 8-5. As for Plattsburgh, their record is now 13-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northeastern Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Plattsburgh struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Northeastern Clinton suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Plattsburgh in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
