Brycen Rummel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Nucla: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 8-9 otherwise. Rummel was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs.
Rummel wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson McCabe, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Cole Bray, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Prairie didn't have quite enough to beat Haxtun on Saturday and fell 15-14. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Ftng Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Riar Holloway led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennon Bringelson, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Nucla has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nucla hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
