They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since April 12th.
Licking Heights had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-22, 25-15.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Westerville South challenged Hilliard Bradley on Thursday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 3-2. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Jaguars 25-21 in the first set.
Westerville South wouldn't go down easily and took Hilliard Bradley into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 15-6.
Licking Heights will have to keep a close watch on Ed Firth and Leo Harden, a pair of players who had a big impact on Westerville South's prior game. Firth had 11 digs, while Harden had 15 digs, 13 kills, two blocks, and two aces. Harden is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had six or more in each of the last 19 games he's played.
Licking Heights pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Westerville South, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
