It was a good run, but the Regis Jesuit Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 76-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Highlands Ranch. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Regis Jesuit came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Highlands Ranch is ranked 74th).
Regis Jesuit's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Damarius Taylor, who scored 26 points along with five assists, and Eric Fiedler who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Alec Roumph was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Highlands Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zane El Bassuni led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that El Bassuni scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nick Gleason, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Regis Jesuit's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Highlands Ranch, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Regis Jesuit will take on ThunderRidge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Regis Jesuit has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 555 points over their last eight contests. As for Highlands Ranch, they will head out on the road to challenge Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Highlands Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
