The McAllen Bulldogs came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial with points to spare, taking the game 51-32. Given McAllen's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial is ranked 1112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McAllen was led to victory by Dylan Benavidez and Mario Villegas. Benavidez scored 14 points along with two steals, while Villegas scored 13 points along with eight assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Ramirez, who scored seven points.
McAllen is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 21-9 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-17.
McAllen will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 7:30 p.m. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, they will head out on the road to challenge Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pioneer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
