After flying high against the Melrose Golden Wildcats two weeks ago, the Battle Ground Academy Wildcats came back down to earth. Battle Ground Academy fell 59-51 to Columbia Academy on Tuesday. If Battle Ground Academy hoped to take revenge for the 64-50 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Battle Ground Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Mclay, who scored 22 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mclay has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Haws, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Columbia Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reese Shirley out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Shirley also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Charley Rae Hutchison, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Battle Ground Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Columbia Academy, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-10.
Battle Ground Academy will be playing at home against Franklin Road Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Road Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Columbia Academy, they will challenge Fairview at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
