Granada blew Dougherty Valley out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Dougherty Valley got their revenge. The Matadors fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Matadors have suffered since March 26, 2024.
Kamryn Brannon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Delaney Aumua made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Alicia Mitre was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, while California put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Dougherty Valley. The Grizzlies blew past the Wildcats 8-0. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Gabriella Nudo, who gave up just two hits to keep Dougherty Valley off the board.
At the plate, Alina Curiel and Jayda Crosby did most of the damage at the plate: Curiel went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Crosby went 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Crosby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Gallegos, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
California kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Granada's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for California, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
