The Horizon Honors Eagles waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Tempe Prep 74-40 on the road. With Horizon Honors ahead 46-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Horizon Honors' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew McEnaney, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. McEnaney is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Gerelick, who scored 17 points.
When it comes to explaining why Tempe Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Austin Sampson. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Sampson is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chris Milner, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Horizon Honors pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Tempe Prep, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Horizon Honors won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Arete Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Arete Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 255 points over their last four contests. As for Tempe Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Sequoia Pathway Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sequoia Pathway Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
