The Rogers Eagles will take on the Shoemaker Wolves in a tournament on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rogers has three straight wins, Shoemaker has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rogers barely beat University the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 12-1 victory on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Tyson Sisneroz and Kash Stephens did most of the damage at the plate: Sisneroz went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Stephens got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That stolen base marked the first that Sisneroz has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Cash Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Rogers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Shoemaker scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 23-19 to Ellison. Even though they lost, the Wolves' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Shoemaker's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Rogers, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rogers hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Shoemaker struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rogers got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2023 against Shoemaker by a conclusive 11-3 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
