Colton Lucero Delivers Best Effort of Season
Sadly, Colton Lucero posting his best game of the season wasn't enough to lead Pagosa Springs over Bayfield on Thursday. Lucero rushed for 400 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played dating back to last season.
For the year, Lucero has averaged 23.5 receiving yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he had four rushing touchdowns. This year he is already up to 16.

Tay Wheat Turns in Season-Best Effort
On Friday, Montezuma-Cortez got the W thanks in part to Tay Wheat playing the best football he has all season. Wheat rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. The performance marked the most rushing yards he has had since back in October of 2023. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 60 yards.
Unfortunately for Salida, this isn't the first big game they've seen from Wheat. Back in September of 2023 (the last time Wheat saw the Spartans), he rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry.
