The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 51-43 victory over Elkhorn Valley. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Elkhorn Valley is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Keyera Eisenhauer was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for she. Ashlynne Charf was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
When it comes to explaining why Elkhorn Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is JJ Black. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Black's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Broberg, who scored seven points.
Elgin/Pope John pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Elkhorn Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.
Elgin/Pope John will head out on the road to face off against Boyd County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Elkhorn Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Stuart at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
