High school baseball star
Cam Caminiti of
Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a day to remember with his bat and his glove Wednesday. The cousin of 1996 National League MVP Ken Caminiti threw a five-inning no-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Deer Valley (Glendale).
Caminiti, a two-time MaxPreps Underclass All-American, began the game with an immaculate inning – striking out all three batters on nine total pitches.
Two innings later the LSU pledge struck out four batters. No MLB pitcher has ever completed an immaculate inning and a four-strikeout frame in the same game. With records going back to 1888, only two MLB pitchers – Craig Kimbrel and German Marquez – have accomplished both in the same season.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound lefthander also did damage at the plate with two hits, including a triple and two RBI.
In 16 at-bats this season, Caminiti is hitting .500 with four extra-base hits. The slugger has been walked 11 times with an on-base percentage of .704.
On the mound he has pitched 11.2 innings and allowed one earned run for a 0.60 ERA. He is averaging 2.57 strikeouts per inning.
Caminiti entered high school originally in the Class of 2025 but has since reclassified to 2024. As a freshman in the spring of 2022, he pitched 40 innings with a 3.32 ERA and 77 strikeouts while hitting .329. He hit .446 in 2023 and pitched just one inning before getting back on the mound this year.
While his uncle Ken hit 40 home runs in his 1996 MVP season, including one off Pedro Martinez, Cam hit four home runs last season and earned a trip to the 2023 Dick's Sporting Good All-American Classic at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Committed to play at LSU, Caminiti is also projected to be selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Perfect Game has him being selected No. 20 overall in its Feb. 22 mock draft.
