Morristown-Hamblen West is 9-1 against Jefferson County since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Jefferson County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Morristown-Hamblen West, who comes in off a win.
Morristown-Hamblen West's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They didn't even let Sevier County on the board, marking the Trojans' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Briony Bunsic made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Bunsic was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Eva Boudier was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was MacKenzie Lucky, who scored three runs.
Morristown-Hamblen West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sevier County only posted a batting average of .059.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County lost 9-1 to Morristown-Hamblen East on Tuesday.
Olivia Mottern was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mercedes Randolph was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases. Kayli Reece was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Morristown-Hamblen West's record now sits at 2-4. As for Jefferson County, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-9.
Everything went Morristown-Hamblen West's way against Jefferson County in their previous meeting back in March, as Morristown-Hamblen West made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
