Maine East hasn't had much luck against Glenbrook North recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Blue Demons will take on the Spartans at 4:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with 14 defeats in a row, Maine East turned things around against Northtown on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over the Pumas. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Demons' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Emma Asien was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maine East got a massive performance out of Ellie Miller, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs Miller has posted since back in March. Katerina Giannopoulos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Maine East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Glenbrook North entered their tilt with New Trier on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Trevians 10-2. Considering the Spartans have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Glenbrook North pushed their record up to 17-12 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Maine East, their record is now 3-15.
Maine East came up short against Glenbrook North in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 10-7. Can the Blue Demons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
