After flying high against the Digital Harbor Rams last Monday, the Coppin Academy Golden Eagles came back down to earth. Coppin Academy was dealt a 63-11 defeat at the hands of Poly on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Coppin Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Poly is ranked 15th).
Poly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mickelle Lowry, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Lowry continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. London Elliot was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Coppin Academy's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.0 points per game. As for Poly, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.
Coppin Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Poly, they will head out on the road to take on City College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
