Rising Sun hasn't had much luck against Southwestern recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Shiners will look to defend their home field against the Rebels at 5:30 p.m.
Rising Sun made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Milan, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Shiners fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Shiners have suffered since May 23, 2024.
Meanwhile, Southwestern got themselves on the board against Jac-Cen-Del on Wednesday, but Jac-Cen-Del never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-0 win. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Adam Traylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Southwestern's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeter Chatham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Southwestern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Varble, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Southwestern has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rising Sun, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Rising Sun came up short against Southwestern in their previous meeting back in April, falling 7-4. Will the Shiners have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
