The Legacy Lightning came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 65-57 victory over Brighton. Given Legacy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Legacy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Delescinskis led the charge by scoring 20 points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Delescinskis posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Spradling, who scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists.
Despite the loss, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: Austin Sickler scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Vance Martinez, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Brighton were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Legacy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Brighton, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-11.
Legacy will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Averaging 60 points so far this season, Mountain Range's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Lightning better be ready for a challenge. As for Brighton, they will head out on the road to square off against the Thunderhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Prairie View has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
