The Columbine Rebels are taking a road trip to challenge the Lakewood Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.6 points per game this season.
Columbine took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They snuck past Ralston Valley with a 51-47 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Columbine got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Speir out in front who went 8-for-12 to rack up 21 points and six boards. That's the most rebounds Speir has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Washington, who went 7-for-16 on her way to 20 points.
Meanwhile, Lakewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against Valor Christian, falling 91-36. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 63-10.
Columbine will need to focus on slowing down Aaliyah Perea, one of several Lakewood players who made an impact when they last played. She put up seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iben Last, who earned ten points and five boards.
Columbine pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Columbine hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.6 points per game. It's a different story for Lakewood, though, as they've been averaging only 40 points. The only thing between Columbine and another offensive beatdown is Lakewood. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Columbine against Lakewood in their previous meeting back in January, as the team secured a 70-42 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbine since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
