The Daviess County Panthers will square off against the Castle Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Daviess County's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Castle's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Daviess County took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Owensboro Catholic a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Sadie Morris was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Newman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Daviess County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owensboro Catholic only posted an OBP of .133.
Meanwhile, Castle came into Thursday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Evansville North by a score of 8-5 on Thursday.
Bailey Gravens tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Emma Bruggenschmidt and Aubrey Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Bruggenschmidt went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Baker got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. June Copeland was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Daviess County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Castle, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Daviess County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Castle struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
