The Pleasant Grove Spartans will take on the Indian Springs Student at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pleasant Grove's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pleasant Grove lost 13-2 to Oak Grove on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Indian Springs). They put the hurt on Fairfield with a sharp 17-9 victory on Thursday. Considering the Student have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Eason Zheng was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Indian Springs is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Zheng was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Bermudez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Timothy Katz, who scored three runs while going 1-for-4.
Indian Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.
Pleasant Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Indian Springs, the win got them back to even at 9-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pleasant Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Indian Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Pleasant Grove's way against Indian Springs in their previous matchup last Thursday, as Pleasant Grove made off with an 18-3 victory. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Student turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
