The Johnsburg Skyhawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Coal City Coalers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Johnsburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 53-20 victory over Harvard. Given the Skyhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Hornets are ranked 340th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Johnsburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Block, who threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brett Centnarowicz helped Block out on the ground, rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Johnsburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 239 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August.
Meanwhile, while Coal City put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Manteno. Coal City breezed by Manteno to the tune of 49-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Coalers just coasted through the last quarter.
The win was the fourth in a row for Johnsburg, bringing their record for this year to 6-3. As for Coal City, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Johnsburg ended up a good deal behind Coal City in their previous meeting back in November of 2018, losing 33-14. Can Johnsburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
