Softball Recap: Mt. Shasta Wins Going Away Against Fall River

Mt. Shasta got themselves on the board against Fall River on Friday, but Fall River never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 13 runs or more this season.

Emily Pigoni made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mt. Shasta let Kaley Lanier and Amirra Funk run wild. Lanier scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Funk scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That's the most runs Lanier has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Heile, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Mt. Shasta hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fall River struck out 14 times.

Mt. Shasta has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Fall River, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Coincidentally, Mt. Shasta and Fall River will both be playing Modoc the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Braves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Bears will head out to face them at 2:00 p.m. on May 2.
