Even though the Douglas Tigers have not done well against the Nipmuc Regional Warriors recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Douglas walked away with a 62-51 win over Nipmuc Regional. Winning may never get old, but Douglas sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Douglas' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Gray, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Gray scored 15 or more points. Colton Howard was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Despite the loss, Nipmuc Regional still got an impressive performance from James McKinney, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chase Kelly, who scored ten points.
Douglas' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Nipmuc Regional, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglas on the road again on Tuesday and play against Whitinsville Christian at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Nipmuc Regional, they will take on Hopedale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
