Leo has won seven straight games at home, while Columbia City has won seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Lions will host the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Leo will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Leo's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Huntington North as they made off with a 10-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Leah Shappell's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carley Funk, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Malina Lape was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Columbia City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over East Noble on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.
East Noble's batters probably weren't too happy with Emma Hiss, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up a single walk).
On the hitting side, Columbia City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bralynn Leazier, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Leo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia City, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
Leo beat Columbia City 4-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
