It's playoff time, and Clayton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 38-12 margin over the Northwood/Solon Springs Evergreens on Saturday. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 20 points or more this season.
Dayne Mumm produced another solid performance rushing for 71 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 134 yards and one touchdown. An impressive showing, but he really ramped things up playing D: he picked up two sacks and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Clayton's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Raul Sanchez and Mumm, who racked up four sacks between them. Isayah Giblin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Northwood/Solon Springs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tucker Madsen rushed for 87 yards and one score on only eight carries. Madsen's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
Clayton's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Northwood/Solon Springs, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.
Coming up, Clayton will challenge McDonell Central on Friday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Macks have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups. Northwood/Solon Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
