The Battery Creek Dolphins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beaufort. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Battery Creek in their matchups with Beaufort: they've now lost five in a row.
Battery Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayvorie Cole, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alizjah Mathis, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Beaufort to victory, but perhaps none more so than Naiim Pope, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Pope set a new season high mark in blocks with three. Another player making a difference was Brandon Blackmon, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Battery Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Beaufort, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Battery Creek will face off against Philip Simmons at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for Beaufort, they will head out on the road to face off against North Charleston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (North Charleston is ranked 111th, while Beaufort is ranked 114th).
