Northeast is 0-6 against Palmetto since January of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Northeast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Northeast made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Seminole, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Warhawks on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Danielle Brunner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Northeast let Lauren Fernald and Makayla Simon run wild. Fernald scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Simon scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Fernald has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Twinam, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Northeast was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Palmetto ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Lakewood Ranch by a score of 8-4.
Palmetto also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: MaKenna Lee gave up three earned runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. Lee has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on LeiLani Cruz, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Keleah Peters was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Palmetto has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Northeast, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Northeast's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Vikings have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Palmetto, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Northeast continue to outrun the ball?
