Notre Dame has gone 8-1 against Pembroke recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish will head out on the road to square off against the Dragons at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pembroke will be up against a hot Notre Dame team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Fighting Irish's way against Webber on Monday as they made off with a 12-4 victory. That looming 12-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Fighting Irish yet this season.
Evan Fitzpatrick made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fitzpatrick was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Liam Berger looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Adyn Horzempa was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Drew Beachel also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pembroke, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Alexander with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Anthony Abbatiello was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Brayden Lang, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Pembroke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Notre Dame's record now sits at 3-1. As for Pembroke, their record is now 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pembroke struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Notre Dame took their victory against Pembroke in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
