Basketball Recap: Pinecrest Glades Academy Takes a Loss

Pinecrest Glades Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 65-40 to the Mater Bay Academy Rays. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Rays are ranked 180th).

Despite the loss, Pinecrest Glades Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ronnie Rivero posted 18 points. The matchup was Rivero's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Benito Payo was another key player, putting up eight points.

Leading Mater Bay Academy to victory were Shandon Bullard and Randy Garcia. Bullard put up 12 points and four steals, while Garcia had 11 points. Garcia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jose Echane, who posted eight points in addition to 11 boards and five blocks.

Pinecrest Glades Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mater Bay Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Pinecrest Glades Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-61 loss against Horeb Christian on the 9th. As for Mater Bay Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-43 win against Coral Shores on the 9th.
