South View hasn't had much luck against Seventy-First recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tigers will challenge the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Cristian Simmons and Jayson Franklin.
Things were looking good for South View after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They and St. Pauls were almost perfectly matched up, but the Tigers suffered a 27-26 loss. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 6-0 in the first quarter.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Simmons and Yoshua McBryde. McBryde had a great game and rushed for 140 yards and one score. Meanwhile, Simmons was balling out in the loss, rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 36 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Seventy-First waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 36-13 victory. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Wolverines are ranked 209th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
South View better keep an eye on R'Maunni Watson. He was instrumental in Seventy-First's win, throwing for 43 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave Watson a new career-high.
Seventy-First was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westover only rushed for -3.
South View's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for Seventy-First, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. South View has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 233.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Seventy-First struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 275.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
South View was dealt a bruising 56-22 loss at the hands of Seventy-First when the teams last played back in September of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Tigers were down 42-22.
