The Johnston City Indians will head out to take on the Herrin Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Johnston City is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
Johnston City can't be too worried about heading out to take on Herrin: they just beat Crab Orchard at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Indians walked away with a 16-12 win over the Trojans on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly four runs.

Johnston City let Zoee Cullum and Lilli Armes run wild. Cullum got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and one stolen base, while Armes fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those five runs gave Cullum a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Johnston City lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Herrin came up short against Benton on Thursday, falling 13-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Haylee Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Monchino, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Johnston City pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Herrin, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.
Johnston City skirted past Herrin 4-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
