While Erie didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Denver North on Thursday. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Austin Sieckmann spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Ronin Ward was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Austin Muir, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Erie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Centaurus didn't have quite enough to beat Shadow Ridge on Wednesday and fell 2-1.
Centaurus saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Larson, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Erie's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Centaurus, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Erie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Centaurus struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Erie was able to grind out a solid win over Centaurus in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, winning 9-6. Does Erie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Centaurus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
