Softball Recap: Knox Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Knox waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Morgan Township Cherokees 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won 11 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Cheryl Barnes and Sarah Fort made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Barnes pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Fort pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Barnes went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Fort went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Knox got a massive performance out of Da'Miya Sherrod, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Sherrod continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Addison Sponaugle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Knox kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Knox's record now sits at 21-6. As for Morgan Township, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Looking ahead, Knox will take on Bremen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.96 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Morgan Township, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-2 victory against Westville on the 23rd.
