Blue Ridge has gone a perfect 6-0 against North Cross recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Barons will head out on the road to take on the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. Blue Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.6 points per game this season.
Blue Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Miller School of Albemarle, who was ranked 24th at the time (Blue Ridge was ranked sixth). The Barons fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 50-47 on Tuesday. The contest marked the Barons' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Despite the loss, Blue Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kamdon Brangman-Cain shot 83% from the field on his way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Dreylan Creasy-Quirindoongo, who went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Cross). They blew past Eastern Mennonite 121-20 on Wednesday. With the Raiders ahead 64-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.
North Cross' win came from a few key players that Blue Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nikola Stankov, who made all 7 shots he took racking up 18 points along with seven assists and three steals. Those 18 points gave him a new career-high. Jesiah Hines was another key player, shooting 75% from beyond the arc to rack up 20 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.
North Cross was working as a unit and finished the game with 40 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
North Cross moved to 12-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Blue Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Blue Ridge has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.3 boards per game. However, it's not like North Cross struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Blue Ridge got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in January of 2025 against North Cross by a conclusive 93-73 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Barons since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
