Montville is a perfect 4-0 against Putnam since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolves will be playing at home against the Clippers at 4:00 p.m. Montville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Montville came up short against St. Bernard and fell 4-1. The game marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Abby Daniewicz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Montville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alanna Noonan, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Michalina Anton-Stavens was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Wheeler hit Putnam with a 15-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Clippers came up short against the Lions, falling 22-12. While the Clippers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 10-3 in the first period.
Olivia Hetrick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Avah Grimshaw, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Montville and nudges their season record down to 5-3. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Putnam, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Putnam's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Putnam, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given Montville's sizable advantage in that area, the Clippers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Montville took their victory against Putnam when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Clippers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
