Cupertino and Homestead are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Cupertino Pioneers will head out on the road to square off against the Homestead Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cupertino is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
Cupertino posted their closest win since December 14, 2023 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Saratoga and snuck past 40-37. Given Cupertino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Saratoga is ranked 585th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cupertino's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Soham Nighojkar, who scored 17 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Yu, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Monta Vista scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, Homestead still came out on top. Homestead pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Monta Vista. The victory was familiar territory for Homestead who now have three in a row.
Cupertino pushed their record up to 17-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Homestead, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
Cupertino came out on top in a nail-biter against Homestead when the teams last played on January 3rd, sneaking past 49-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cupertino since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
