Ashley Ridge is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Summerville is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes will take on the Summerville Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Ashley Ridge blew past Berkeley, posting a 48-14 win at home. The result was nothing new for Ashley Ridge, who have now won five matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Ashley Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevor Kalisz led the charge by throwing for 263 yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Salley jr, who picked up 228 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Ashley Ridge's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Kevin Cobbs and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Summerville didn't have too much trouble with West Ashley on the road on Friday as they won 48-30. Given Summerville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while West Ashley is ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summerville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yannick Smith, who picked up 237 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Smith was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 68 yards. Jaden Cummings was another key contributor, throwing for 357 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt.
Their wins bumped Ashley Ridge to 7-1 and Summerville to 8-0.
Keep an eye on the quarterbacks in this one, as both the pair don't mess around when it comes to the passing game. Ashley Ridge has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 279.1 passing yards per game. However, it's not like Summerville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 274.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might be a classic QB duel.
Ashley Ridge lost to Summerville at home by a decisive 28-13 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Ashley Ridge have more luck at home instead of on the road?
