Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the Manila Mustangs proved on Friday. They really took it to Rangely for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-36 win at home. With Manila ahead 39-18 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Manila found their leader in underclassman Teague Goodman, who scored 12 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of RIley Browning, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tristan Scott, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds. Chase Cochrane was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Manila and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Rangely, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Manila will head out on the road to face off against Intermountain Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Intermountain Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Manila is ranked 26th). As for Rangely, they will be playing at home against Dolores at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 51 points per game, Dolores has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup.
