For the first time this season, Phoenix will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to square off against the Hidden Valley Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Phoenix is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Phoenix will bounce into Friday's game after beating Eagle Point, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Pirates walked away with an 8-5 win over the Eagles on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
The team relied heavily on Rylie Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Hidden Valley put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mazama a 10-0 shutout. The match marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Scarlett Gordon made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sam Lesher was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aidriana Orellana, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Phoenix's record now sits at 3-1. As for Hidden Valley, their record is now 8-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Phoenix has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hidden Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Phoenix couldn't quite finish off Hidden Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
